Last week, I told the story of Edmund Hillary's expedition to the summit of Mount Everest and the confusion surrounding who reached the top first. I also hinted in the comments that I thought it might not have been either of them.
The first people to reach the summit may have done it as early as twenty-nine years before Hillary's success. But, due to a lack of concrete evidence, it was never proven whether they made the summit before they perished on the mountain.
However, a recent discovery of the remains of one of the climbers could soon lead to this question being answered once and for all. Who was the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest?
