Everyone wants fifteen minutes of fame; Jennifer Mee has experienced this twice and found that neither was what she expected. Mee was the fifteen-year-old daughter of a waitress who became known as the hiccup kid. Her story started when she developed a severe case of hiccups, fifty times a minute for five weeks without a break.

Her parents tried all types of remedies, from herbal to medical, then as soon as they had started, they stopped of their own accord. During these five weeks, she appeared on numerous chat shows worldwide and gained her now-infamous nickname. As soon as the hiccups stopped, the interviews and attention did. However, in 2010, Mee would be the centre of the media's attention for an entirely different reason.
