Fyodor Dostoevsky's Criminal Career

The inspiration for many of his books

Dostoyevsky, author of Crime and Punishment, based the story on his experiences in prison in his twenties. 

He is one of the best-known authors from the nineteenth century, but few readers know how much of his novels he based on his life experiences and ideology. 

In later life, he changed his views from one of social revolution to a more spiritual one, but his life experiences in prison shaped many of his books and characters.
