On 27th December 1985, screams pierced the misty atmosphere surrounding a tiny tin hut in the middle of the brush. The shouts kept repeating, ‘Dian’s dead.’
The location was a remote research centre off the beaten track in east-central Africa. The fifty-three-year-old victim was a US-born primatologist Dian Fossey. Despite making enemies while studying gorillas, she self-funded one of the best facilities in the area.
Despite her reputation and the research she pioneered, her murder has never been solved. Theories are plentiful as to why she was killed, but no one knows for sure.
