Julia Ward Howe was a woman who did not take no for an answer. She refused to bow to the norms of her generation. Instead, she fought for women's rights.
She is the author of the Civil War anthem, 'Battle Hymn of the Republic.'
Although famous for her work with the suffrage movement, the fight for her rights started much closer to home with her husband.
